WASHINGTON — Undefeated heavyweight boxer Seth "Mayhem" Mitchell will be stepping into the ring in Atlantic City, N.J., against top contender Chazz "The Gentleman" Witherspoon.
The two will fight on Saturday, April 28, in Boardwalk Hall as Mitchell continues his quest to remain unbeaten and puts himself in position to possibly get a shot at the title sometime early next year.
The fight between Mitchell and Witherspoon will be the undercard bout for the Bernard Hopkins vs. Chad Dawson "Once And For All" world championship showdown. The doubleheader will be televised by HBO World Championship Boxing beginning at 10:15 p.m.
Mitchell has a record of 24-0-1 with 18 knockouts. He has made boxing fans not only in this area, but across the country, excited about the sports glamour division once again. Mitchell's goal is to get a heavyweight title shot next year.
Mitchell, who turned pro in 2008, had four bouts in 2011 and won them all in impressive fashion. He had three early knockout wins over Charles Davis, Evans Quinn and Hector Ferreyro that were followed by a devastating second-round finish of contender Timur Ibragimov.
Mitchell hopes to keep his momentum going against Witherspoon on Saturday night. I had a chance to sit down with Mitchell this week to talk about his upcoming fight and what his expectations are.
